Christ(ian) in the Workplace

Updated: Jan 14, 2022

A rough week back to work after being off for 6 weeks for surgery. Was getting used to just being home, reading the bible, trying to better understand God's will in my life. As time was coming closer to work return, started dreading the things that led up to my heart attack earlier in the year. Too much unnecessary stress. Figured if I could just stay in God's word, pray and meditate, and let God work all things out for me.

Only made it about a day and a half back at work, then it was all back again. Been turning the cheek all these years, being humble, keeping the peace, but it was getting to be just too much anymore. I have always thought that integrity, truth, patience, and kindness always win in the end. After 2 heart attacks, an implant, and possibly needing a heart transplant, I was feeling like it's all over, I can't just keep taking it.

At home, been trying to keep my mind on spiritual things, and not think about work. Transcribing an old cassette tape of the only sermon my dad preached that was found a couple of years ago. It was nice hearing dad talk again, and especially in the scriptures. After hearing today's sermon, was very convicting, that there is no timetable, no expiration to turning the cheek. No running away. Not the message I was wanting to hear today, I needed to be rejuvenated, not keep on doing the same. But here was the message, and it was signed at the very end by my dad. His favorite verse, I hadn't heard it in quite a while, 2 Peter 3:18.

2 Peter 1:1-11

Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ. 2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, 3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 3:14-18

Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16 As also in all his epistles speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. 17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. 18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Thank you, God, for all the blessings in my life.
