He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. (Psalm 91:1).
Who Are You Going To Call?
We all know to call 911 for all our emergencies. We trust the systems we have put in place to protect or help us. We abide (live) under these systems. When our own personal resources fail us, we look to these. We know that when we call 911 we will get a response. A forceful response to protect us with police. A caring response for our medical conditions with an ambulance. A physical force to put out fires or other dangers in our lives. We are rescued from our situation. Who do we call upon when our spirit is in despair? Who do we call upon when others we love are in despair? Who do we call upon when our nation is in despair?
Christians know that they can call upon God to help them. Even non-Christians will pray to God to help them in some situations. We use prayer to call upon God. Sometimes we want it to be an immediate emergency service response, but God screens our calls and knows the plans he has made for us. His response is in His time, not ours. When we read Psalm 91:1 we see we feel safe living with Him.
Why Is He Your Refuge?
In Psalm 91:2, I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God in him will I trust. David proclaims that God is his emergency call, in God he trusts. Now this doesn't mean David didn't call upon his armies when he had to. We still need our armies, and still need our emergency services. We know that God uses armies and earthly forces to protect us and help us when needed. We pray to God for his help, that he will work through people or circumstances to answer our call (prayers).
Psalm 91:3, "...surely he shall deliver thee ...".
Psalm 91:4, "He shall cover thee..., shall be thy shield...".
Psalm 91:5, "Thou shalt not be afraid....".
Psalm 91:7, "...it shall not come nigh to thee".
Psalm 91:10 "There shall no evil befall thee...".
Psalm 91:11 "..he shall ... keep thee in all thy ways."
I would say that throughout my life, I have called upon God many times to help me. A couple of times in my life, a medical clinic called upon emergency services, and an ambulance came to take me to the hospital. I am thankful for those that helped me and that God worked through them to save my life. I am even more thankful to God who has saved my soul.
I testify that I abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I have made the spiritual emergency call for the salvation of my soul, and I have been rescued. As we read the scriptures, I wonder if we really hear every word of the scriptures? Do we really believe? Do we "I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
I have always been terrible in calling emergency services as anyone who knows me would tell you. Not many people would keep going to Prompt Care having a heart attack rather than call or go to the emergency room. So please call 911 for your emergency service and make it easier for God to help you. I always didn't have a good prayer life, didn't call upon the LORD. Didn't make him my refuge. Leaned on my own strength. Now, I lean on God in my life. Not just when I need emergency service, but am thankful for all the blessings he gives me.
Thank you, God, for thy shadow. For providing a place for me to dwell, and my family. Thank you for all the blessings in my life. Thank you for allowing us to have 911 services to help us.
